British Urban Film Festival

Last night, the British Urban Film Festival (BUFF) took place in the famous Hilton Hotel, in London Bridge. The BUFF awards were founded by Emmanuel Anyiam-Osigwe, to acknowledge all those involved in the creation of indie urban films.

The evenings ceremony was hosted by popular actor/writer and direct Femi Oyeniran and his co-host Larushka Ivan-Zadeh who is well known for being the film editor for Metro Newspaper.

The evening started off with press taking pictures and interviewing various nominees and guests. Shoreditch radio presenters Melina and Juggy were live from the red carpet talking to a few nominees. The duo managed to converse with the night’s honorary legendary actor Wil Johnson, certified actor Charles Venn, boxer and Olympic silver medallist Joe Joyce and the winner of the best actress category Vicky Earle.

The ceremony took place in the banquet room of the Hilton Hotel, whilst dinner and drinks were served to the guests, a group of young black female violinists were playing beautifully to the crowd.

The singer of the night was none other than the beautiful and curvaceous Shola Ama, who performed throughout the evening, playing some of her classic songs with the audience joining in.

The first award was presented by Casualty actor Charles Venn to legendary actor Wil Johnson, the honorary award was given to him to acknowledge his 31-year contribution to British television and film.

Another special feature at the ceremony was the Mohammed Ali photo gallery exhibition. The legendary boxer was honoured during the awards show, and a special snippet of his documentary was played for the crowd.

Best Actress – Vicky Earle

Best Director – Film Invisible Man

Best Feature Film – Invisible Man

Emerging Talent – Layla Lewis
