Suvlaki Brick Lane

Brick Lane, famed as London’s epicentre for food, music and art is a true melting pot of everything exciting in London’s east end. Graffiti clad, this one street speaks volumes for London’s diversity with live street performers, alternate markets and food from all over the world readily available. So where better to dine Greek style, embracing all that’s great about food from the Med, hot off Suvlaki’s kitchen robata and josper grills.

As a soho favourite, the Suvlaki team deliver a little piece of Athens (minus the weather) with ingredients sourced from quality British and Greek producers. The traditional grilled meat skewer, ‘suvlaki’ leads the menu, with plates to be ordered on the stick or stuffed in a pita. Packed with flavour, the Mount Olympus Wild Boar sausage with smoked aubergine and the Corn Fed Chicken skewers were real winners and dreamy with sides of baked feta, super fresh tzaziki and the alluring fresh prawn saganaki.

Grills firing on all cylinders we were left wrestling for table room to accommodate sizzling spicy lamb chops and octopus and, being as photogenic as it was delicious, an Instagram foodie snap free-for-all soon ensued. Given the unfortunate limitations of the human stomach size there remains so much on this menu left to try, such as Slow cooked Aged Scottish Texel Lamb with chilli beetroot, vegetable cous cous and green herb sauce and Gloucester Old Spot Pork with vine tomato, tzatziki and red onion.

With Greek liquor to accompany dessert we suppressed the urge to mount the table, throw the plates and Opa! A superb dining experience, Suvlaki is well worth the visit and we can’t wait to head back!

We were kindly hosted by Suvlaki, however all opinions are our own.
