Gen Z’s Attempt To Clean Out Eminem’s Closet

TikTok users have been seemingly campaigning to have Eminem cancelled in the last week due to certain lyrics included in his raps over the years. The particular lyrics in question are from the Rihanna collab of ‘Love the way you lie’ where Marshall Mathers (Eminem) says “if she ever tries to leave again, I’ma tie her to the bed and set this house on fire”. At the time of the track’s release in 2010 there was much controversy and claims that the song ‘glamourised’ domestic violence, with an accompanying video featuring Megan Fox and Dominic Monoghan seeing the pair simulating sexualised domestic abuse behaviours. The Gen Z’ers on TikTok have arrived a little late to the party it would seem, as Eminem has been a hugely controversial figure since his early releases and remains one of his generations most prolific and successful artists. Naturally, many Millennials came to the rappers defence as did Lil Nas X when he released a parody video on TikTok. Eminem doesn’t seem to be too worried though, with the release of his new album ‘Music To Be Murdered By – Side B’ and staying as committed as ever to controversial art.
